Family Law Divorce/Dissolution

Divorce/Dissolution

When a relationship breaks down one or both parties may seek to dissolve the marriage or civil partnership, or to obtain a formal decree of judicial separation.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that not all relationships last. Regardless of whether you are married, in a civil partnership or just living together, we can help with all of your legal needs.

Starting divorce or dissolution proceedings

If you're starting divorce or dissolution proceedings against your spouse or civil partner, you will be the petitioner.

Providing you both agree to the divorce or dissolution, we offer a fixed fee service for petitioners for £450 plus VAT. In addition to our fees, you'll also need to pay a court fee of £593 (unless you’re eligible for help with fees). Depending on your reason for the divorce, you may be able to ask the court to make an order that your spouse pays your costs.

Whilst the divorce or dissolution proceedings legally end your marriage, there may be other matters to do with finances or children that need to be resolved. This would be at an additional cost but we will be able to advise you of all your options once the divorce or dissolution proceedings were underway.

Responding to divorce or dissolution proceedings

If your spouse has issued divorce or dissolution proceedings against you, you will be the respondent. We can assist you throughout the proceedings and costs will be charged at our hourly rate of £190 plus VAT.

What if both people don't agree to the divorce or dissolution?

If one person doesn't agree to the divorce or dissolution, it could become a contested. Contested divorces or dissolutions are uncommon but its best to get legal advice as soon as possible to try and avoid lengthy court proceedings. If proceedings are not agreed costs will be charged at our hourly rate of £190 plus VAT.
